Periodic NFPA compliant safety inspections on fire and smoke dampers will include the following:
- Locate, access and survey area of subject damper.
- Locate and open or remove inspection door.
- Remove any dust and debris from the area of subject damper by vacuuming through a high density HEPA filtration system, insuring a dust free environment while cleaning.
- Inspect all linkage and pivot points for freedom of movement and or wear. Lubricate and adjust as needed.
- Inspect spring for proper closing force and freedom of movement.
- Actuate damper to insure equipment works as designed. Insure smoke damper closes properly and completely and verify that subject damper smoke detector reports back to main fire equipment panel, and is properly identified.
- Inspect fusible link. Replace as needed.
- Install identification/date tag on damper access door. Place identifying markings on ceiling for future location identification.
- Add unit identification and location to equipment log for update to, or creation of inventory data base.
